2014 Robert D. Russell Symposium

Description of Event
The 2013 Robert D. Russell Research Symposium and Scholar Address is a free, full day event for SIU students and faculty, ESG affiliate chapter members, and community practitioners highlighting current research, best practices and technology in health education and health promotion. It serves to showcase the Health Education program at SIU and the ESG Alpha Alpha Chapter as leaders in the Midwest for research and continuing education with in the Health Education Profession and it seeks to accomplish the following goals:
1. Provide a free symposium them that builds upon the current national agenda for health promotion and health education
2. Provide training and continuing education for the public health education workforce
3. Include poster and oral presentations related to both research and health promotion in practice
4. Involve students, faculty and professionals in the field of health education and health promotion
5. Involve affiliate ESG Chapters from the region
This year’s event is themed, Discovering Innovation in Health Education The Symposium will offer a professional development track with 4 CEU’s offered for program evaluation. Additionally, during concurrent track sessions, faculty, students and community-based workforce will present their work in the areas of (a) ensuring healthy school environments (b) creating healthy workplaces and (c) empowering healthy communities.
Beyond the full day research symposium and scholar address, the ESG 2013-14 Alpha Alpha Chapter will be hosting an ESG social prior to the start of symposium and a SIU Recruitment Session following the symposium. The social, held Sunday evening, will be open to all students and faculty from ESG Affiliate chapters and will provide members a chance to engage in team building and networking. The SIU recruitment session, which will be held Monday morning and include a morning fitness session at the REC Center, a tour of SIU campus, a panel discussion with SIU faculty and optional interviews, is open to all students interested in pursuing further additional Master’s or Ph.D level training in Health Education and Public Health.
The symposium provides education and resources for health educators, healthcare professionals, and students.
